Hare Hare Yukai [PS2 Version]
| Suzumiya Haruhi | Kyon | ||
![]() |
Suzumiya Haruhi is a girl in her first year of high school. Her classmates characterize her as being eccentric, beautiful and unpredictable. Haruhi demonstrates a large array of skills, excelling in fields such as academics, music, and athletics. Allegedly, Haruhi is the cause of an incident approximately three years ago before she entered high school, subsequently drawing the attention of three interested groups: the data entity aliens, a future human civilization with advanced time traveling technology, and a group of 'Espers' who spontaneously developed powers during the incident. Depending on who one asks, Haruhi is herself explained as a crack in the space-time continuum, the first technological singularity to be spontaneously born in the universe or even God. In the words of Itsuki, "We would call a being with these powers 'God'." The other members of the SOS Brigade know this and try to accommodate her whims if possible. Ironically, Haruhi is the only member of the SOS Brigade who is unaware of these factions and phenomena. | ![]() |
Kyon is one of Haruhi's companions, and the second founding member of the SOS Brigade. His reputation and fate have since become inextricably entangled with Haruhi's. He is also the only "normal" human in a club otherwise filled with aliens, espers and time travelers. This is a cause of curiosity and concern amongst many parties, since Haruhi is "not interested in ordinary humans." As a cynical and somewhat apathetic high school student, Kyon is the sole voice of reason in the SOS Brigade, as he sometimes intervenes when Haruhi behaves too erratically. Much to his irritation, this responsibility is his alone, since the other members passively go along with Haruhi's schemes. Although Haruhi Suzumiya is the title character, the story is told from Kyon's point of view. He narrates each episode with sarcastic commentary on the various absurdities related to Haruhi, her various club activities, and events around him. |
| Nagato Yuki | Asahina Mikuru | ||
![]() |
Yuki is not a typical human, but a "humanoid interface" or artificial human created by the Integrated Data Entity. She was sent to investigate the cause of the explosion of data that occurred three years ago which far exceeded anything they had observed. She is capable of manipulating data, as a result, Yuki can do such things as creating baseball bats that always strike home runs, arranging for a student to mysteriously transfer out of the high school, predicting the future, and typing at a superhuman speed. At the start of the series, she is always seen wearing glasses, but following a fight scene with Ryoko Asakura, she forgets to regenerate them, and they remain absent after that. | ![]() |
According to Haruhi, Mikuru serves as the attractive girl in the story, a necessary ingredient for something extraordinary to occur. In addition to this, Haruhi regards Mikuru as her personal dress-up doll and mascot. The stronger-willed Haruhi uses Mikuru's sex appeal to promote SOS Brigade activities and forces Mikuru into various costumes, such as bunny-girl, maid or nurse costumes. Mikuru is actually a time traveler sent to investigate the cause of the turmoil in the space-time continuum three years ago which prevents time travel beyond that point. |
| Koizumi Itsuki | |||
![]() |
Koizumi Itsuki was the last member to join the SOS Brigade. Haruhi recruited him as the "mysterious transfer student". Itsuki was sent to observe and protect Haruhi and the rest of humanity. He willingly complies with Haruhi's plans as he has a concern for keeping her emotionally stable, and does not want her to use her powers destructively. Itsuki is also a member in a secret association which he simply refers to as "The Organization." The members of this society consist of special humans known as espers who gained unique ESP-like powers and special knowledge regarding Haruhi three years ago. | ||
| Asakura Ryoko | Tsuruya | ||
![]() |
Initially, Ryoko appears to be a compassionate and hard-working high school girl. She also showed particular concern about how Haruhi had distanced herself from the rest of the class. However, it turns out that she is Yuki's backup, and as such, is also another "humanoid interface". Much like Yuki, she finds it difficult to empathize with humans, but unlike Yuki, possesses exceptional social skills. Initially she cheerfully supports Kyon's reaching out to Haruhi, often encouraging him to "open her up to the class," making Haruhi easier to observe. However, she later decides to try and kill Kyon with a combat knife in the hopes of catalyzing an observable reaction from Haruhi. | ![]() |
Tsuruya is the hyperactive friend of Mikuru (from the current time plane) notable for her loud voice, ankle-length hair, and prominent tooth. She possesses a cheerful and friendly disposition. She is also prone to long fits of unrestrained and intense laughter at things she considers even the slightest bit humorous.In the light novels, it is strongly implied that Tsuruya's wealthy and venerable family is a covert supporter of "the Agency" to which Itsuki Koizumi belongs. Tsuruya herself seems to possess some knowledge of the secrets of the SOS Brigade and other matters, although she never explicitly says so. Tsuruya temporarily takes care of Mikuru Asahina during an event when the latter has a double presence in the 'present' of the SOS Brigade and is also the caretaker of a mysterious artifact discovered on her family's grounds, both at Kyon's request. |
| Taniguchi and Kunikida | Computer Research Society President | ||
![]() |
Taniguchi (left) and Kunikida (right) are classmates and Kyon's friends. Taniguchi went to the same junior high school as Haruhi while Kunikida went to the same junior high school as Kyon. Like Tsuruya and Kyon's sister they act as fill-in members for the SOS Brigade whenever needed. Both of them played very small parts in Mikuru Asahina's Adventure - Episode 00, with neither having many lines to say. They are friends and are almost always seen together. | ![]() |
He is the President of the Computer Research Society (or Computer Society), which shares a room adjacent to the SOS Brigade. The President is never given a name other than "Computer Society President" or variations upon that term (all that is known of his name is the first syllable: "ya"). He and his club have had the misfortune of being targeted by Haruhi's blackmail, being forced to give away their best computer and wire the Brigade's clubroom for an internet connection. He hasn't yet forgiven this, and checks the SOS Brigade website to see if they are putting the computer to use (which they haven't), making him the primary cause of their hit counter's steady rise. |
| Kimidori Emiri | Kyon's Sister | ||
![]() |
Emiri appears in "Mysterique Sign" in the anime version, reporting the missing Computer Research Society President. She claims to be his girlfriend, though when asked later by Kyon, the President says that he does not have a girlfriend. Like Yuki, she speaks with a quiet voice that is barely audible. She also serves as the secretary to the Chairman of the Student Council. She is another Humanoid Interface just like Yuki and Ryoko. She later returns as the secretary to the Student Council President, at which time it is implied that she is Yuki Nagato's superior, or at the very least her minder, after Yuki had temporarily become emotionally unbalanced and altered the world by using Haruhi's powers. | ![]() |
Not much is revealed about Kyon's fifth-grade sister; not even her real name is given. Other characters simply refer to the eleven-year-old as Kyon's (Younger) Sister or Little Sis. |

"The image is a reference to Volume 3's short story "Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody". The story involves the Tanabata festival, celebrated on July 7th each year. Haruhi asks the Brigade to write down wishes and post them on a bamboo shoot. The top image shows her looking out the window. In the novel, she's sitting on a chair stairing out the window, but this is close enough. Below are live-action shots of a promotion video put on my Kyoto Animation that portrays the events in the short story. Basically, Kyon is taken back to the past (exactly 3 years ago) by Asahina. Asahina is put to sleep by an older version of herself who awaits for Kyon in the past. The older Asahina instructs Kyon to help Haruhi paint the symbol on the school field that Tanaguchi talked about when describing Haruhi’s past junior high antics. So, it turns out Kyon actually helped Haruhi paint the symbol for her that night."

Well statistically speaking, IE is still the most commonly used web browser there is. However I find it that most people that use it aren't quite as computer savvy as users of Firefox or alternate browsers.
